I’m writing this post because “recommend me a good dermatologist in Singapore” is one of the questions I’m most often asked by friends – Now I can just direct them to this post.
Incidentally, “dermatologist Singapore” is also one of the most Googled terms in Singapore, receiving over 3700 searches each month – so I figured I’d just help everyone else out at once.
Training to be a dermatologist in Singapore
First, a bit of context. In Singapore, training to become a dermatology specialist requires an additional 6 years after completing med school – this comprises 3 years of internal medicine training, and another 3 years of advanced specialist training in dermatology.
Almost every dermatologist in Singapore would have spent a significant amount of time at the National Skin Centre as part of their training. At the end of the 6 years, they exit the training programme as an associate consultant.
Finding a dermatologist in Singapore, before I became a doctor
I made a bad decision to see a particularly aloof private dermatologist for acne all those years back. Long story short – I found that my ill-advised choice simply didn’t care as a doctor. It was hardly a proper consult as she barely addressed any of my questions. Even my mom didn’t like her (found her arrogant), and my mom likes everyone. Kind of like Justin Bieber’s mom, or perhaps Ed Sheeran, since he actually wrote the song.
How did I end up going to see that particular dermatologist? I was one of those 3700 people searching online for dermatologists in Singapore to treat my acne, and saw her name pop up a number of times. Just to be sure that it wasn’t me, I checked the internet and found more than a few others echoing my experience.
Now that I’m on the other side, I hope to spare you the unfortunate online search process I went through myself by offering a couple of dermatologists me and other doctor friends know to be friendly and experienced. Naturally, no one is paying me, nor will it ever happen with any other recommendations list.
Dermatologist Singapore: Dr Steven Thng, Dr Melissa Tan Wee Ping, Dr Roy Chan, Dr Leow Yung Hian, Dr Martin Chio, Dr Chong Wei Sheng, and many more.
Address: 1 Mandalay Rd, Singapore 308205
Phone: 6253 4455
I’ll always be partial towards the NSC, as they properly treated my acne throughout army. When I eventually went back many years later on a work rotation, it was kind of a surreal feeling to be on the other side of a clinic consult this time – right down to doling out advise to pimply army boys that I received myself over a decade ago!
You can request to see a dermatologist privately at the NSC. Even if you go as a new patient via a polyclinic referral, rest assured that a consultant will still be seeing you on your first visit. I’d suggest the former though, for shorter wait times and the ability to choose and follow-up with the same consultant.
Dr Steven Thng saw me a lot when I was a patient at the NSC. I have only good things to say about Dr Steven, if you’re fortunate enough to book in with him (he’s usually terribly busy). He’s one of the cheeriest and friendliest doctors around.
I’m personally also a huge fan of Dr Melissa Tan Wee Ping, if you ever need any laser or cosmetic procedures at the NSC. She’s super skilful and sweet in person. I’ve recommended many of my friends to see her.
Dr Roy Chan, Dr Leow Yung Hian, Dr Martin Chio, Dr Chong Wei Sheng are all amazing too. To be honest, there are too many great consultants at the NSC to name all of them here.
Dermatologist Singapore: Dr Mark Tang, Dr Colin Theng
Address: Mount Alvernia Medical Centre D, 820 Thomson Road, #07-61 Singapore 574623
Phone: 6262 6298
The Skin Specialists and Laser Clinic comprises Dr Colin Theng, as well as Dr Mark Tang.
I found out recently that Dr Colin was incidentally the brother of Dr Julian Theng from EEC, who did my LASIK surgery! Both of them are lovely people, and I’ve personally had the pleasure of working with Dr Colin while he was a visiting consultant at the NSC. Again, a super friendly doctor who’s always wearing a big smile.
Before founding The Skin Specialists and Laser Clinic, Dr Colin was the former chief of the psoriasis unit and phototherapy unit at the NSC, where he managed challenging psoriasis and eczema cases. He also has vast experience in laser surgery, with over 10 years of laser experience.
Dermatologist Singapore: Dr Lynn Chiam

Dr Lynn Chiam runs the Children and Adult Skin, Hair and Laser Clinic alone. She was previously the head of the Paediatric Dermatology Unit at NSC before leaving for private practice, and also served as a Visiting Consultant at NUH’s Department of Paediatrics.
If you haven’t gathered, she’s really well known for seeing children’s rashes – especially seeing as how she has 4 children of her own! It’s generally rather hard to find paediatric dermatologists in Singapore. If my nephews or niece had a rash, I’d take them to see her without hesitation.

It’s one of the largest private dermatology specialist group in Singapore, comprising three clinics and a comprehensive range of laser equipment.
Prior to setting up Dermatology Associates in 2005, Dr Ang Por was the chief of the dermatological surgery and laser unit at the NSC, performing skin cancer surgery and skin surgical procedures. She’s known amongst patients for making plenty of time for them, which is why they love her.
Dermatologist Singapore: Dr Melvin Ee Hock Leong, Dr Raymond Kwah Yung Chien, Dr Henry Loh, Dr Tay Liang Kiat

It’s run by 4 dermatologists – Dr Melvin Ee Hock Leong, Dr Raymond Kwah Yung Chien, Dr Henry Loh, Dr Tay Liang Kiat.
They have a special focus on skin surgery and treating skin cancers, and are well known in the community for performing Mohs Micrographic Surgery. Dr Melvin was formerly the chief of the skin cancer clinic and Mohs micrographic surgical service at the NSC, where he pioneered and established the Mohs micrographic surgical services in Singapore.
Dermatologist Singapore: Dr Tan Hiok Hee, Dr Audrey Tan Wei Hsia
Address: 10 Sinaran Dr, #10-05,Novena Medical Center Square 2, 307506
Phone: 6397 6006
Dr Tan Hiok Hee and Dr Audrey Tan Wei Hsia run Thomson Specialist Skin Centre. The clinic treats patients with skin, hair and nail problems, as well as provides screening and treatment of sexually transmitted infections. They are also know for eczema and hives treatment.
Dr Hiok Hee was previously the consultant in charge of the acne clinic at NSC, and also helmed the Department of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Control. He’s now still a visiting consultant at the NSC, and I’ve personally had the pleasure of working with him while I was there. He’s one of the most mild-mannered and kind doctors I’ve ever worked with.
This list of dermatologists in Singapore is naturally not exhaustive, and there’re plenty of other great dermatologists I didn’t mention in this short post – But I hope that it at least gives you a better starting point with which to start your search for a dermatologist.
