12th May is when the world celebrates International Nurses’ Day to commemorate Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Unlike most other countries, Singapore celebrates Nurses’ Day on 1 August. It’s the very day that nursing first started in Singapore with a group of 11 nuns caring for sick patients, all the way back in 1885!
If you are wondering what’s with this post, it’s because we figured – why not just celebrate both days over here in Singapore to give everyone a chance to recognize nurses for all their hard work TWICE?
By popular request, this is the second part to our previous post on 10 pretty nurses to follow on Instagram in Singapore. Thanks for all your nominations once again – you know who you are!
PS Much as we’d love to share our good-looking nurse colleagues with you all year round, DxD is primarily a doctor-run portal for all Singaporeans to ask any of your health-related questions for free to our local team of doctors, dentists and specialists. You can find out more about us here.
It’s no secret that nurses form the backbone of Singapore’s entire healthcare industry, with more than 1 in 2 healthcare professionals in Singapore being a nurse.
Which is exactly why even though DxD serves as an online platform for doctors and dentists writers, we still treasure every opportunity to recognize nurses for all their hard work. As Shahida rightly pointed out in our Facebook page comments – both doctors and dentists wouldn’t survive a single day in hospital or clinic without nurses backing us up!
We hope that all of you make use of International Nurses’ Day to show some love to a nurse you know, be it a giant warm hug or a nice big box of chocolates – we can reveal that nurses never say no to chocolates 🙂
