For the past two weeks, I have been unable to get proper rest.

It wasn't because of any life stressors (such as losing a loved one); I had been started on new medications and simply couldn't fall asleep.

I was yawning every 5 seconds with my eyes closed, and despite lying on my bed for 2 hours, I was still unable to fall asleep. Needless to say, I was frustrated.

The situation was tolerable at first. However, by day 3, I was starting to lose it. I had become noticeably more irritable, clumsier and generally miserable.

Hello everyone, I am Darren Toh. I have written for DoctorxDentist in the past about depression and mental illnesses, you can read about them here:

A Depressed Patient’s Journey Through Singapore's Hospitals Part 1 (SGH and Mt Elizabeth Hospital)

A Depressed Patient's Journey Through Singapore's Hospitals Part 2 (IMH General Ward)

A Depressed Patient's Journey Through Singapore's Hospitals Part 3 (IMH Mood Disorder Unit)

Today, I'm going to talk about something very interesting that I'm certain has crossed everyones' minds: INVOLUNTARY HOSPITALISATION

I'll be breaking down the legal mumbo-jumbo for everyone so that you can have a better understanding of what rights the patient has when it comes to the law.

Bet your bottom dollar you didn’t know this, but stress is one of the biggest risk factors for gum disease progression! It can exacerbate gum disease suddenly and cause your teeth to shake. And sadly, I have concluded that no one is spared from the effects of stress.

From the rich to the poor, from the young to the old, from the educated to the illiterate. Stress affects everyone, but the ones that remain healthy and unaffected by stress are the ones that have learnt to cope with it.
