Dr Ang Teck Kee is a Consultant and Interventional Cardiologist with more than 15 years of clinical experience. He graduated from the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS) in 2004 with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS). He obtained his post-graduate Internal Medicine degree, Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (United Kingdom) in 2010.
Dr Ang underwent his Cardiology Advanced Specialty Training in Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), Singapore from 2011-2014 and was accredited by Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and Ministry of Health Singapore (MOHS) as a specialist in Cardiology in 2014.
In 2016, he was awarded the Human Manpower Development Program (HMDP) scholarship by MOH to further sub-specialise in the field of Interventional Cardiology at Liverpool District Hospital, New South Wales, Sydney. He spent a year under the mentorship of world-renown Professors and experts in Interventional Cardiology and was trained in the latest advances in the Interventional Cardiology arena.
He subsequently returned to Singapore in 2017, working as a Certified Senior Interventional Cardiologist, providing 24/7 acute heart attack interventional service in KTPH. He has since taught and mentored up and coming Interventional Cardiology fellows rotating through KTPH Cardiology in his role as an Interventional Cardiologist in KTPH. To date, he has performed more than 3,000 invasive coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention procedures, mostly through the less invasive radial (wrist) artery approach. He is very well versed in the use of ultrasound guided puncture of artery, which is extremely useful in certain subset of patients with difficult to access arterial system.
Dr Ang is a strong believer of using the latest technological advances in Cardiology in his practice. Apart from his interest in complex coronary intervention, his other interests include stroke prevention in at-risk cardiac patients with abnormal heart rhythms such as atrial fibrillation.
Despite his move to private practice, he continues to nurture the younger generation of doctors by returning to KTPH weekly as a Visiting Consultant, contributing both to the 24/7 acute heart attack interventional service in KTPH, as well as education and training of the next generation of Cardiologists and Interventional Cardiologists.
On a more personal note, Dr Ang strongly believes that the care and attention given to every patient he treats, should be the same as that he would deliver to his own parents. This can be seen by the continuous awards he received during his time in KTPH, receiving the Service Champion award in 2015, 2016 and 2018.

Well, it depends on the type of medication you are taking. In general, most medication is ok with heart medications but there are some specific ones we look out for. For example, if you are taking nitrates, isosorbide dinitrate, or even a Glyceryl trinitrate spray, then try not to take things like Viagra, because they enhance the vasodilation effect and can cause your blood pressure to rise to a life-threatening level. Other things could be dependant on whether you are taking blood thinners. Let's say you have a stent implanted then you have two blood thinners already.
Health or heart screening is generally done in asymptomatic individuals who may or may not have pre-existing cardiovascular risk factors (examples include but are not limited to): diabetes, hypertension high cholesterol, sedentary lifestyle, smoking and a significant family history of heart disease. Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a safe, non-invasive and quick test. It is a 10 seconds snapshot of the electrical activity of your heart.
As with any vital equipment which is needed on a daily basis, our heart too requires regular servicing and maintenance to keep if functioning well. The average life expectancy in Singapore is close to 84yrs old. At 50yrs old, one would have 34 more years of life ahead of them. Our aim is to keep patients healthy and be able to enjoy more years of healthy living. Regular screening allows patients to detect diseases early, hence allowing early intervention and treatment. Having a heart screening once a year can help pick up potential diseases sooner and hence treatment can be initiated earlier.
